INTRODUCTION TO DISPUTE RESOLUTION IN SPORT
Course Introduction
The course “Introduction to Dispute Resulution in Sport“ is a four-week open course (every
Tuesday, two hours online, live), offered by the Academy of Leadership Sciences Switzerland,
Zurich.
The course is designed and delivered by recognized experts in Sports Law. It is being offered as
an open course and can be attended by anyone who is, or aspires to get, involved in the industry
of sports – including lawyers, sports administrators, sports federations, students, among others
Course Content
The course covers specific topics on legal sport-related issues including the national and international Dispute Resulution in Sport, Disciplinary matters, Disputes & differences – private tribunals and Courts, Dispute Resolution at FIFA, CAS jurisdiction, CAS Procedures and other
topics.
Course Details
- Duration of the Course: 4 weeks, (every Tuesday, two hours webinar at 18h00 CET Time)
- Language: English
- Start Date: 4 March 2025
- Study Options: 100 % online per Zoom
- Tutorial fees for the whole course: CHF 890 to be paid at least two days before the course starts.
- Admission Requirements: Anyone who is, or aspires to get involved in the industry of sports can enroll for this course.
- Internet access and an email address are required.
Course Structure
Week 1: Introduction to Dispute Resolution in Sport (2 hours)
• Introduction to the dispute resolution system in sport.
• National and international disputes.
• Types of disputes (contractual, regulatory, employment-related).
• The creation of a specific dispute resolution system for sports.
• The advantages of a specific dispute resolution system.
• Status quo: presenting praise and criticism.
Week 2: National and International Dispute Resolution in Sport (2 hours)
• International dispute resolution in sport.
• National dispute resolution in sport.
• Local courts.
• The national dispute resolution chambers (NDRC).
Week 3: Dispute Resolution in Sport (FIFA) (2 hours)
• Dispute Resolution at FIFA.
• Legal and regulatory framework.
• The FIFA Football Tribunal, its deciding bodies and their competence.
• The course of proceedings.
• Proposals, expedited decisions, adjudication and mediation
Appeals.
Week 4: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)(2 hours)
• The Court of Arbitration for Sport
• Disciplinary matters
• Disputes & differences
