INTRODUCTION TO SPORTS LAW (CANADA)
Course Introduction
The course Introduction to Sports law is a four-week open course (every Monday two hours
online), offered by the Academy of Leadership Sciences Switzerland.
The course is designed and delivered by recognized experts in Sports Law. It is being offered
as an open course and can be attended by anyone who is, or aspires to get, involved in the industry
of sports – including sports administrators, lawyers, sports agents, or intermediaries, current
and former athletes, among others
Course Content
The course covers specific topics on sport-related issues including the national and international regulation of sport, sport governing bodies, national law directly applicable to sport, contracts, sports agents / intermediaries, dispute resolution and other topics.

- Duration of the Course: 4 weeks (every Tuesday two hours webinar at 18h00 CET)
- Language English
- Start Date 21 November 2023
- Study Options 100 % online per Zoom
- Tutorial fees for the whole course CHF 790 to be paid at least one week before the course starts.
- Admission Requirements Anyone who is, or aspires to get, involved in the industry of sports can enrol for this course.
- Internet access and an email address are required.

Week 1: Introduction to Sports Law (2 hours)

• Autonomy of sport and good governance
• Stakeholders
• Regulatory framework
Week 2: Doping, the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA), and other Integrity related Matters (2 hours)
• Doping, The Canadian context, CCES
• Anti-doping Rule Violations, Standards and Sanctions
• Case Law
• Wider Ethics, Integrity and Disciplinary Matters
Week 3: Dispute Resolution in Sport (2 hours)
• Disputes & differences – private tribunals and the Courts
• Professional Leagues vs Olympic Sports: Comparison, Collective Bargaining, Agents
• Dispute Resolution On-field
• Internal Disciplinary Procedure
• ADR Mechanism for Dispute Resolution, the SDRCC
Week 4: Common and Emerging Areas of Disputes in Sport in Canada (2hours)
• The Olympic Context: Eligibility, Team Selection, Funding Appeals
• Case Law
• Safe Sport in Canada, Obligations, Framework
