INTRODUCTION TO SPORTS LAW Kenya and Nigeria

Course Introduction

The course Introduction to Sports Law & Governance is a four-week open course  offered by the Academy of Leadership Sciences Switzerland, Zurich.

The course is designed and delivered by recognized experts in Sports Law. It is being offered as an open course and can be attended by anyone who is, or aspires to get, involved in  the  industry  of  sports  –  including  sports  administrators,  lawyers,  sports  agents,  or intermediaries, current and former athletes, among others.

Course Content

The  course  covers  specific  topics  on  sport-related  issues  including  an introduction into sports law, sport governing bodies, sports governance, anti-doping, dispute resolution, Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) and other topics.

  • Duration of the Course: 4 weeks (7pm-9pm EAT 15pm - 7pm WAT)
  • Start Date: 26 May 2021
  • Study Options 100 % online per Zoom
  • Tutorial fees for the whole course: CHF190
  • Admission Requirements Anyone who is, or aspires to get, involved in the industry of sports can enrol for this course.
  • Internet access and an email address are required.

Week 1: Introduction to Sports Law (2 hours)

Sources of sports law.
Globalization of Sports law
Relationship between international federations and their members

Week 2: National Law and sport (2 hours)

Anti-doping rule violations
Role of WADA and its subsidiaries(RADOs and NADOs)
Disciplinary process
Sanctions

Week 3: Anti-doping (2 hours)

Relationship between national laws and sports
Relationship between national and international federations
Sports dispute resolution at the national level
Regulatory framework of WADA

Week 4: Dispute Resolution in Sports (2 hours)

Disciplinary matters in sports.
Types of disputes in sport
The Court of Arbitration for Sports
Sanctions and enforcement of CAS awards
Brief overview of FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber.
